President's Speech

Alumni President, Prof. Ayodele during 2023 AGM of CHS Oleyo, Ibadan
CHRIST’S HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (CHSAA)

PRESIDENT’S WELCOME ADDRESS AND REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES ON

CHRIST’S HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FOR THE YEAR 2022/2023.

Dear members of our great Alumni Association, it is with gratitude to God almighty, that

I welcome you all to the 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Christ’s High School Oleyo, Ibadan, Alumni Association. This is my first AGM as your President and I am extremely happy and grateful to all of you for your generosity, unwavering support for my team and your dedication to the growth of our alma mater. It is a rare privilege to serve you in this capacity. I am really grateful. When I got an invitation from the NUC for the accreditation exercise to two Universities in the north from the 12th to 18th November, 2023, I felt like rejecting it because of the closeness to the AGM but the economic situation in the country now would not allow me. I am grateful to God for sparing my life to be at the AGM this year as I returned from the trip just yesterday night. I thank my Vice President, retired CP Dayo Ariyo for holding forth and making sure there was no vacuum during the period. I appreciate the AGM planning Committee also led by CP Dayo Ariyo Rtd. for putting this AGM together.

In line with the provisions of our Constitution, the AGM affords us the opportunity to give account of our stewardship in the last one year. Specifically, we are to:

receive the accounts of Christ’s High School Ibadan Alumni Association.
receive the reports of the activities since the previous AGM of all the Boards, Councils and Committees of the Association.
discuss and determine any issues of policy and,
deal with any other business as may arise
These have been reflected in the program which has been pre-circulated.

2.0 PROJECTS

2.1 REAR FENCE, COPPICING OF TWO SIDES OF THE PERIMETER FENCE, BEAUTIFICATION OF THE FIELD, & ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE AND FLOORING OF THE ENTRANCE TO THE GATE

2.1.1 Perimeter Fencing: The PPIC successfully completed the rear fence of the school thus achieving the complete fencing round of the school premises. We appreciate all donors to this gigantic project. It was indeed the first major project of this executive and it was successfully completed. God bless us all. A second marble area has been constructed containing a list of all donors.

2.1.2 Beautification projects: Palms were successfully planted round the field but some experienced shock at some time and had to be replaced. Nevertheless, many could not survive despite arrangement for their watering because of the termite infestation of some areas, the activities of footballers and those for social engagements. However, those planted in pots and around the administrative building are doing well. We have plans to intensify further efforts during the next rainy season on the beautification efforts in the school particularly at entrance to the school and along the road when completed.

2.13: Coppicing of the fence: The coppicing of the front side and the left side of the perimeter fence have been completed to pave the way for the plastering of the entire fence inward and outward. The other two parts should be completed by the first quarter of next year 2024 by God’s grace

2.14 Flooring of the entrance to the Gate: This has recently been completed. We hope to landscape the area and beyond as soon as possible

2.15 Donations and expenditures: These are expressly indicated in the reports of the Financial Secretary whom I want to thank specially for being a pillar to the Association despite his tight schedule.

2.2. OTHER PROJECTS

Grassing of the football field. Is being undertaken by the US/Canada chapter and the project is ongoing.

International Institute of Tropical Agriculture/Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM): This project has been completed and handed over to the School

Hall: and Toilets/Conveniences: Information will be provided on these to all members soon.

Appreciation:

We express our sincere appreciation to members who magnanimously donated funds for the execution of the projects and for other requests. Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi and Dr Jimmy Etti-Williams were the highest individual donors while the Class of 74 and the CHS USA/Canada emerged as the highest group donors. God bless you all and replenish your purses. Your labour of love for CHS will never go without a reward by God’s grace. Amen.

We appreciate the efforts of the Class of 84 for their contributions to the growth of the School. It is the youngest chapter but their activities and consultation have been very encouraging. The set provided the tiled boards in the classrooms for the students and I am made to understand that they are about tiling some classroom floors too. God bless you all. The class of 83 celebrated their reunion yesterday 17 November, 2023 as they clocked 40 years after leaving school. I was ably represented by my Vice President. The Class has been very supportive to the Association. I look forward to their continuous engagements.

I thank you all for coming to this year’s AGM and I wish us a great time together.

Professor Abiodun Ayodele

President, CHASS.
