In view of the recent destruction of some classrooms at Christ High School, Oleyo on the 16th of May 2024, has forced the CHSAA to suspend the on-going school project for the year 2024 and called for urgent fund donation from members both at home and in the diaspora, so as to put an end to the sufferings and pains of over population which the students are currently passing through due to the sudden shortage of classrooms occasioned by the rainstorms. This clarion call, led by Ambassador Seyi Onafowokan, met with a tremendous support from the alumni, especially those in the diaspora such that within a spate of two weeks, their response was overwhelming in cash volume. It will be recalled that a similar incident occurred in May 2021, when the heavy downpour accompanied by windstorms destroyed the roof of some blocks comprising the Vice Principal ‘s office and SSS classrooms (Science) , though it is more devastating this time than the previous one.
Following the release of the sum of three million naira from the excos to the PPIC, the renovation work, which is in two phases, began on Tuesday 10th June 2024 after three weeks, when the response from the owner of the School, the Oyo State government and the PTA body whose wards are the direct victims of the incidence was not forthcoming.
According to the PPIC Chairman, the Baale of Òléyò, Alhaji Abdu-Kabeer Olayemi Olajide, the phase one of this renovation comprising masonry and carpentry aspect will be completed within a week, and the second phase which includes ceiling, wiring, painting and welding will be completed shortly after the mid-term holidays. The cost of this renovation project is estimated to gulp over five million naira (#5,000,000.00). However, the estimate for the repair of the school hall is before the Exco for future consideration in view of the huge cost.
